Memoirs of Christ Nagar L

Hi everybody,

Nice to contact all of you once again. Still eagerly waiting to see the get-together photos. Renjith, send please.

Continuing with the memoirs session (the 50th session), today we shall remember the Talents day : It is a day when the students take over charge as teachers in Christ Nagar. It was there in all years of our schooling in Christ Nagar from the 5th to the 10th. It used to be on July 31st or August 1st each year. In the morning Assembly, the Principal hands over the golden key to
the Student Principal and student Vice Principal. The speech and further proceedings are by the Student Principal only. Then, the classes will be taken over by the student teachers. The real teachers will be behind them of course, and give marks to them the whole day. In the evening assembly, the best teachers are awarded, and the golden key is returned, another uniquity of our school. In our 10th Std, remember our student Principal Ramesh S, and the Student Vice Principal Sanju Mathew.

Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh

Want to be a student teacher again? Nooo. Try to be a good teacher at least.

There used to be athletics (100 & 200m dash, long jump, high jump and others), and games like basket ball, football, cricket & others (list incomplete). Hi all,

I am so happy to see the memoirs arranged into blog (I didn't do, as I did not know how to make it). Congrats to Nitish. CONGRATS to NITISH MATHEW once again (Belated) on your marriage.

It was a function held on one day in the evening and night. There used to be a series of talks, including the Principal, Vice Principal, Innauguration by a renowned person, Presidential address (usually some film actor or a minister). There used to be a toast to the outgoing students by some junior, followed by a reply to the toast by a 10th Std student. These boring sessions were usually sandwiched by songs of various types. Later, there used to be dances of various kinds, skits & dramas etc. Prize distribution in various fields like General Proficiency &

Memoirs of Christ Nagar XLVII

Hi all,

HAPPY MARRIAGE WISHES to VINAY N SHENOY. Continuing with the memoirs session, today we shall remember the Onam celebrations :

We used to have an Onam Celebration each year on the last day of the first terminal examination (in some years), or on the very next day . We had it on all years except our 5th Std (when even the 1st term exam was incomplete). The most interesting feature was that many of us started wearing mundu or lunki for the first time in life in those days. Athapoovu competition was held between the batches in some of the years. It reflects the artistic talents many of us have. By afternoon, we all meet each other and disperse. Missing again (esp those who are staying out of Kerala)? Doesn't matter, keep missing.

To continue in the coming sessions,

Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh

Hi everybody,

Nice to contact all of you once again. Contact me on 94465 78791 in Trivandrum. Continuing with the memoirs sessions, today we shall remember the X'mas Fete.

Every year, the day the school closes for Christmas vacation, we used to have this festival, another unique entity of our school. We had the same on all years except of course, the 5th Std (1987). Remember how we waited to receive a bag of eatables, usually with cake, orange, ladoo, banana and others before the occasion (once that day's exam is over). There used to be Christmas carols & other songs. Ballades and skits are usual attractions. A Christmas MESSAGE used to be given by a renowned person, usually a bishop (once Rev Susai Packiam, once Rev.Samuel Amritham) or a film actor or a minister. The most wanted attraction is the 'CHRIST NAGAR BEAUTY CONTEST'in which one from each batch dress like a girl, and come on stage. One of them used to be awarded prize. Another attraction is the LUCKY DIP in which each of us vie with each other to get a Christmas cake. Remember how we used to blow up the coupons after tearing them to pieces, once we come to know that we are among the unlucky ones. Another attraction was the arrival of the SANTA CLAUS from nowhere, and distribution of sweets associated. Usually, this is preceded by crackers, and other lightworks.

Missing your school, right? Want to study there again? Bu..t, no, you can't. At least send your children. ha ha ha..

To continue with other events in the coming sessions,

Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh

Hi all,

Hope all of you are doing fine. I am doing fine by His grace. Here I am continuing with the sessions in Std IX.C,

History : It was taught by TT Antony sir. Basically, we were taught the Indian history of ancient and medieval age. We started with the Paleolithic ages, and how we developed the Indus Valley civilization. We learned the religions of Jainism & Buddhism that spurt out of India. Then, we started learning kingdoms one by one in chronological order from Mauryan Dynasty (Chandrgupta Maurya BC 300), Alexander the great, Satavahanas, Ashoka the great (Kalinga) and others. The Gupta Dyansty (AD 320) under Chandragupta Vikramaditya, Harshavardhana (AD 600), the Chalukyas (Pulakesin II who defeated Harsha in 640s). In South India , the Cheras (around AD 800), the Cholas (Raja Raja Chola & Rajendra Chola) and the Pandyas (around 1200) (Mahendravarman). Back to North India , the Delhi Sultanate under Sultana Raziya till Ibrahim Lodi (defeated by Babur); the Tughlaks, the Khiljis and so on. Mughals from Babur (1498- the first battle of Panipat) through Humayun (Sher Shah in between), Akbar the great (16th century), Jahangir, Shah Jahan, Aurangezeb (1710 -1761) (then small kingdoms till 1862).Sorry for being over descriptive and boring you; now I shall be concise.

Political Science : TT Antony sir He taught the basics of Political Science with definitions, the
constitution etc.

Geography : Leelamma Kurien teacher. She taught the basics of longitudes & latitudes (with
calculations), differences in landscapes, types of climates (tropical rain forests, tropical savanna, arid, ice cap) and others; currents of the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, Indian & Atlantic oceans; various stores in India & Kerala as ores & minerals; countries (Algeria, Iceland, Antarctica).

Economics : Taught by Leelamma teacher. The father was Adam Smith. She taught about the basics like production, consumption & distribution etc.

Memoirs of Christ Nagar XXV

Hi all,

I am glad to tell that this is the 25th session of the memoirs. Where are all of you hibernating through? This is not winter, eh?

Continuing with IX.C,

Physics : It was taught by PJ Jacob sir. He taught us principles of mechanics. It includes the equations of motion like v = u + at, S = ut + 1/2at2, v2 = u2 = 2aS. Three laws of motion were 1.Every body continues to be in its state of rest or in the state of uniform motion in a straight line, unless an unbalanced external force acts on it. 2. The rate of change of momentum of a body is inversely proportional to the force acting on it, and it takes place in the direction of it. 3.For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The definition of force was based on the law 2. The basis of frictional force (dyanamic & static), gravitational force, capillary action, surface tension, forces of cohesion & adhesion etc were all covered. Also basic principles of electricity including E=IR, principle of voltaic cell (essay for final exam) & other cells, principles of sound etc were covered.

Chemistry : It was taught by Devadas sir. He taught us the basics of physical chemistry like Avogadro's law (with the no 6.023 * 1023), basics of stoichiometry, Periodic table etc. Different types of bonding like ionic (electrostatic), covalent bonds, polar molecules like water etc were taught. Detailed explanations of halogens (F, Cl, Br, I, At), oxygen family (O, S, Se, Te, Po ), nitrogen family (N, P, As, Sb, Bi), carbon family (C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) were taught chapterwise.
Note : Thanx to the teaching of my teachers, I still feel difficult to forget the periodic table with the atomic numbers & locations (except the lanthanides and actinides (f block) of course).

To continue in the subsequent sessions,

Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh

Hi dear all,

Nice to see the increasing mails, and to see Sabari's pictures,
and the urge to search for the missed ones among us.

Here I am presenting to you another song that we used to listen on
morning 9:30, apart from the other 2 already given.

Make me a channel of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love,
Where there is injury , your pardon Lord,
And where there's doubt true faith in you.

O, master grand that I may never seek,
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood, as to understand,
To be loved , as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of Your peace,
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope,
Where there is darkness, Lord your shining light,
And where there's sadness, ever joy.

Make me a channel of your peace,
It isn't pardoning that we are pardoned,
In giving to all men that we receive,
And in dying that we're born to eternal life.

Hi to my dear batch,

Nice to contact all of you once again. In view of the interest shown by many of you like Renju, I am reciting the song 'Lead Kindly light' before you.

Lead kindly light, amid the encircling gloom,
Lead, Thou me on
The night is dark, and I am far from home,
Lead, Thou me on
Keep thou my feet, I do not ask to see
The distant scene, one step enough for me.

So long Thy power, has blessed me sure it's still,
Will lead me on.
O'er moor and fen, o'er crag and torrents till,
The night is gone.
And with the morn those, angels faces smile,
Which I have won, long since and lost awhile.

Thanx for now. I shall respond to Rejith in the next session. To

Hi all,

Deepu, thanx for interpreting what I meant correctly. In Std 6,
you were in E division. Riaz, nice for sending additions to the list
of classmates, some of which are not there in our list like Cecil
Yesudas (Ashams, please add).

In this session, for a change, let us remember our school song. It
used to be sung many days through the mike at 9:30 am(after the
morning prayer).

Blessed art thou, dear, Christ Nagar,
That bears the Lord, our Master's name,
Around thy flag let Angels fly,
And fill our hearts with virtues lore.

Beneath Thy noble roof we meet,
And gather fruits of wisdom pure,
We like a band of brothers' move,
In faith, in hope, in charity.

May life eternal surge in us,
And lead us fast in love of God,
Show us the way in darkness sure,
O, lead us in grace to truth Divine.

And here we make a solemn pledge,
Forever thy worthy sons to be.

In the next session, to start with Std 7,

Hi to my dear batch,

Thanx to Anil and Gopikrishna for replying to my mails.

There was an awakening for one week amongst our batchmates, once I
sent an incomplete list of batchmates. Now,around 15 to 20 are left
to be found out. Are you all in search for them or is the spirit
lost?

I am continuing with the memoirs in our Std VI.D. Here are certain
events that happened to our batch this year. I hope Arun Soman might remember him getting caught by Pattarkalam father thinking that he was me (during our classroom sweeping
session, which used to occur everyday morning by turn). I hope at least some of you may remember our visit to Aruvikkara dam, Science & Technology Museum etc on July 14th. Also, remember the excursion by some to various places of North Kerala (I didn't go). Remember, once we were taken to Kalabhavan theatre by the school authorities during the International Film festival and shown a movie. Remember our changing seats everyday by rotation from front seat to back seat.

I cherish the memories of the friendship I had with Rakesh G &
Sharat Gopal in 6th std. Hope they too remember me. It was during the 6th std that the morning song (after the prayer at 9:30), some songs were added extra like "Sare jaham se acha", " Therihe samey" which are there in our tongue tips still. I remember Boban drawing beautiful pictures from the textbooks. I also remember him filling answer papers at tremendous speed in Social Studies exams. Hats off to you !!

So, shall we go through important events in our batch in 6D? Wait for
the next session.

Yours sincerely,
Dr.Sundar Singh

Memoirs of Christ Nagar VII

Hi all of you,

Nice to contact all of you once again.
Dinkar, please include me and invite me for Orkut community.
Continuing with my (our) memoirs session in Std VI.D,,

Malayalam class : Mrs. Annamma was our teacher.
We had no textbook for the first two moths. So, she was teaching
various aspects of grammar this time, like vibhakthi, types &
classification of namam, sarvanamam, kriya & other parts of speech in
detail.
Can you still forget the figures of speech (alankaram) taught?
Upama : `Onninonnodu sadirsyam chonnal upamayamathu'- lakshanam, with
the standard example, `Mannavendra vilangunnu chandraneppole nin
mugham'
Ulpreksha : `Mattonnin dharmayogathal athu thanallayoyithu
Ennu varnyathilashanka ulprekshayakhyayalankrithi', with the standard
example, `Kokasthree virahatheeyin pukayallo thamassithu'.
Roopakam : `Avarnyathodu varnyathinnabetham cholga roopakam'
Aprasthuthaprashamsa : `Aprasthuthaprashamsakhya
maprasthuthamurakkathal'
Within two months , we started classes on the new first paper text.
Remember the poems `Moham' of ONV which is still famous, those of
Irammian Thampy, Cherusseri, Asan etc. Also, remember the African
diary of SK Pottekad, stamp collection and others.
Remember the II paper text book we got after 3 months in the
class, `Bharatiyaraya pancha maha pratibhakal' where we learned the
life history of 5 eminent Indian personalities like JC Bose, CV Raman
and others.

Hindi class : Mr.MA Varghese was our teacher. He taught both the main
text book as well as the supplementary `Katha manjari'

Work Experience : Mr.Mathew was our teacher. All of us must be
remembering him helping us do experiments with magnetism and
electricity with his favourite `Dynam Electrikit'. The striking
feature in exams is that, if you know to draw each apparatus in the
exam, you pass the exam without knowing anything else.

To continue with Biology in the continuing sessionns,

Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh

Memoirs of Christ Nagar III

Hi to my batch,
Nice contacting all of you. I am planning for a short visit to
Trivandrum, to reach on the 4th and go back by the 6th July.Hope to
meet some of you that time.
Good to see good old memories of Christ Nagar pouring out.
Continuing with my stuff in Class 5D,

Hindi : Natarajan sir was taking class first. I hope all of you
remember him, repeating words to remind all of us. Aana= varika, jana
= pokuka, khana = thinnuka, lana = konduvarika, and the alphabets,
were all the basics that he had given me and all of us, which I can
cherish in this land (North India), where I have to converse in Hindi.
Sukumaran sir joined later after the strike, and I always had a
liking for him. A poor sir, who was mocked by the students, just
because of his over sincerity.
Remember the Hindi padamala with 22 chapters, ending in the
song 'chanda ooncha rahe hamara'. Remember the supplementary text
book 'katha manjari' with stories in it like ekta mem bal he, kaue ki

Memoirs of Christ Nagar - II

Hello all,
Nice to know that many of you are interested to go back by 19 years
and refresh your memories.
Vinay, it is not that the rest of the classes can't be remembered of
(expect later,ie, after 5th std). But,it is that I do not know much
about the 5A,B,C,E batches (Sorry to those in non 5D batches)
Hope it would be nice to think of some of the teachers and what they
taught in 5D, before going on to the events. In the last session, I
missed out to mention Mr.CS Paramanandan Sir (Music).

Madhu Sir : He taught English for us.
Guided English - Remember the first chapter on the tracherous man
and Ram. He taught us parts of various famous writings like the
Counte of Monte Christo, the story of the great fire in the forest,
and many others.
Remember how he taught English grammer, and give exercises for
us.Also, the English composition book, Cursive writing book.
Remember the second paper book,'Robinson Crusoe'. This was the
adventurous story of a person who went throughout the world in boats
and canoes, caught up by pirates, escaped ultimately and ends in
rapture.

Harindran Nair Sir : He taught Malayalam for us.
Malayalam I text book - Remember the first chapter (Keralam). How
he sang in the class the first poem (tr to remember that sweet tune).
Parinu paribusha charthidum,
Bharatathinde chitrakam,
Keralam vilangunnu komalam,
Keravrikshaka sangulam ....
This rings in my heart when I am away from Kerala.
There were 25 chapters of which around 15 - 20 were taught. Also
remember worthwhile chapters like Kuyilum Minnaminungum (4th),
Kolumbante Nattil (17), Kaliyamardhanam (25), Thazhmathanabhyunnathi
(6), Asian Games (5), Thiruvathazham (14), Akshayapatram (19) etc
Remember the II paper text with 10 chapters (Dasapushpangal). The
story of the rakshasan, Kabuliwallah, Abhimanyu, Balikeramala and so
on.
None would have forgotten the day when sir took class on
Dooradarshan (15) with all students in the class standing (due to
making noise), and writing notes standing.
I also can't forget him pinching in the arms, and the erythema (for
next one day) and healing following that taking around 3 days.

Sukumaran Sir:
Feel nostalgic !!! or getting bored ????
Others please make your additions to this.
Shall continue in next session.
Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh

1987 - How it all started

Hello,
I think it would be a nice attempt to remember our activities in
Christ Nagar School in chronological order. I think I shall start off
from 1987 (when we joined the school).
But, please pardon me if any mistake occurs, as it is purely based
on memory. Any correction is welcome. All of you may store these
information one after the other (like a novel) that by the end, we
shall be able to remember our good old days, and make a diary of that.

Starting off, in 1987

April 4th Sat(or 6th Mon) - We wrote the Christ Nagar entrance
examination.
9th Thu - Results declared - We are selected
11th Sat - Interview for entering into CNEHS
May last week - We get prepared by buying books etc
June 1 Mon - Our first day in Christ Nagar. I join 5D class
in the ground floor (third room from the left)with KP Suresh Kumar
sir as the class teachers. Other batches were A, B, C and E formed
few days later. Other teachers were
English - Mr.Madhu
Malayalam - Mr.Harindran Nair
Hindi- Mr.Sukumaran
Mathematics - Mr.KP Suresh Kumar
Basic Sciences - Mr.Aravindakshan Nair
Social Sciences - Mr.Vinod
Work Experience - Mr.Mathew
Moral Science - Mr.KP Suresh Kumar
Sorry,I do not remember much about other batches.
The first day was half day, and we went back home enjoying.
June 2 - The second day of CNEHS. We started going on to the classes.

To continue in subsequent sessions.
Give your suggestions regarding continuation. If you feel boring, I
do not want to continue. Or else, I shall continue in my next mail.
Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh
