Memoirs of Christ Nagar XXXVI

Hi all,

Nice to contact all of you once again. I expect to be back at home in Trivandrum, to reach there by the 11th Jan. So, if we have a get together after that, I too shall try to attend it. But, if the
convenience of most of us is before that, let that be so (just send the snaps & memories from there into the group).

Continuing with the memoirs of Std X.E,

History: Betty Balan teacher taught us the subject. We dealt with the history of medieval and modern India and the world. Indian history – We studied the Indian history since the English rule over India . It included different wars like French wars (1700s), Battle of Plassey (1757), Maratha wars (our SSLC essay) etc. The events like Sepoy Mutiny (1857), and the reforms of Governor- General or Viceroys like Robert Clive, Lord William Bentinck, Hastings, Canning, Warren Hastings etc are worth mentioning. After the first war, the other events like the formation of INC (1885), Montagu Chelmsford or Minto Morley reforms (1909), Chauri Chaura Incident, Jallianwala bagh massacre (1919), Non cooperation movement (1920), Dandi Yatra (1930), Quit India Movement (1942), Cripps Mission (1946) were important steps before our Independence in 1947. Post independence events like constitution formation, Republic, the five year plans, and the reforms of our Prime Ministers were taught.A brief mention of the history of Kerala was also taught. World history : First, we learned the world scenario before 1919; then learnt the first world war (causes, course, results) in 1914 – 1918. The League of Nations formation in 1919. Then, we learnt how the world was under Fascism, Nazism, the Wall Street Catastrophe etc. Then, we saw how the second world war occurred, the course and results (1949 – 1945) with the Hiroshima , Nagazaki incident. Then, we learnt the United Nations and how it was successful. We learned about the freedom struggles in many parts of the world like Israel, Indonesia , Syria , China , the cold war etc.

To continue in the coming sessions,

Yours sincerely,
Dr.Sundar Singh
