Memoirs of Christ Nagar XX

Hi all from my dear batch,

Nice to see the good response of many of you to the batch's 1200th mail (my previous mail). Here is the batch's memoir number 20, as part of the mail digest no 400. Continuing with the memoirs of Std VIII A,

History : (Late) Thankappan Pillai sir. He taught about the basic history of India before Independence, after Independence; All states & Union Territories of India; Kerala since
1956; the United Nations; the Roman & Chinese civilizations etc. Remember how he goes out of the subject to discuss current topics.

Geography : Joseph Sylvester sir. He taught the reasons to say why earth is spherical (oblate
spheroid), basics of longitudes & latitudes; basis of rocks, weathering, soils, Social Forestry etc; 4 important organisations (Scouts & Guides, Red Cross/Crescent, Bharat Sevak Samaj, Cooperative Movement), 2 developed countries (US & USSR), 2 developing countries
(Chile, Malaysia).

Remembering my classmates, including Cherry Jim, Renjith Sanu, Tibu, Subramony, Bittu B, Deepak, Majo George, Leejoy GL (late), Leejoy Mathew.

Computer Science : Thomas Mani sir was the first person to lead us in the knowledge of computers. He taught us how to make programmes in the BASIC language. Each line used to begin with numbers like 10, 20, 30, etc. (eg :- 10 LET X=1, 20 X=X+1, 30 IF X=10 GOTO 10 etc). Frankly speaking, I do not know to use any computer language other than what he had taught that time (but I do accept that it may be outdated). I look upto the computer engineers in our batch, who might be knowing how to deal with the finest details of computer (which I am illiterate). We had computer class every Thursdays in the evenings (others had on other days as well).
