Memoirs of Christ Nagar XXV

Hi all,

I am glad to tell that this is the 25th session of the memoirs. Where are all of you hibernating through? This is not winter, eh?

Continuing with IX.C,

Physics : It was taught by PJ Jacob sir. He taught us principles of mechanics. It includes the equations of motion like v = u + at, S = ut + 1/2at2, v2 = u2 = 2aS. Three laws of motion were 1.Every body continues to be in its state of rest or in the state of uniform motion in a straight line, unless an unbalanced external force acts on it. 2. The rate of change of momentum of a body is inversely proportional to the force acting on it, and it takes place in the direction of it. 3.For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The definition of force was based on the law 2. The basis of frictional force (dyanamic & static), gravitational force, capillary action, surface tension, forces of cohesion & adhesion etc were all covered. Also basic principles of electricity including E=IR, principle of voltaic cell (essay for final exam) & other cells, principles of sound etc were covered.

Chemistry : It was taught by Devadas sir. He taught us the basics of physical chemistry like Avogadro's law (with the no 6.023 * 1023), basics of stoichiometry, Periodic table etc. Different types of bonding like ionic (electrostatic), covalent bonds, polar molecules like water etc were taught. Detailed explanations of halogens (F, Cl, Br, I, At), oxygen family (O, S, Se, Te, Po ), nitrogen family (N, P, As, Sb, Bi), carbon family (C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) were taught chapterwise.
Note : Thanx to the teaching of my teachers, I still feel difficult to forget the periodic table with the atomic numbers & locations (except the lanthanides and actinides (f block) of course).

To continue in the subsequent sessions,

Yours sincerely,
Sundar Singh
